She changed from her maternal cowlike self (Hathor) and became the raging lioness. In the myth she is diverted from destroying all mankind through a trick when she got drunk on beer colored by hematit to apear as blood. In her drunken sleep Ra took back his anger and fury from her transforming his malice into joy, his anger into peace… so that when she awoke she forgot her deadly mission and returned to her motherly aspect… some say in the cat form of Bastet. Her name means „Powerful One“ and her priests are considered „doctors of healing“ since she is also known as the bringer of disease and demons in the need to appease her wrath. Since she was pacified by beer, she is associated also with the consumption of beer and wine.
